This is the acoustic pickup that breaks the rules. New
technology allows DiMarzio to construct a pickup that combines high
inductance with low DC resistance. This design enables low notes
to be very bright and clean-sounding, while allowing high notes
to be warm and smooth-sounding. The result is a pickup that
sounds more open and detailed than other magnetic pickups - with
none of the problems with balance as you play up the neck - yet
smoother and more three-dimensional than piezo saddle pickups.
It's also outstandingly quiet. The electronics are built into a
solid maple cover. Pole pieces are fully adjustable and
calibrated for standard bronze strings, and a new three-point
mounting system holds the pickup in the soundhole. A low-noise,
oxygen-free cable terminates in a 1/4" cable-mount phone
jack. The Reference Acoustic is the only choice for pros who
demand the very best.
Recommended For:
Soundhole in all steel-string guitars.
Tech Talk:
The Reference Acoustic is the most sensitive soundhole
pickup DiMarzio makes. Response to pick attack and changes in playing
dynamics is extremely quick and accurate. This quality allows
the pickup to track the acoustic feel and response of the
guitar, so the amplified performance of the instrument can
better mirror its unamplified behavior. The actual sound of the
Reference Acoustic will depend on how it is amplifed, and we
recommend using a good acoustic guitar amp or high-fidelity
sound system. It will also work well with outboard acoustic EQ
units and signal processing.
