Quicksilver Delay Pedal

All Blackbox Effects are handpainted. Actual paint scheme may
differ from what is shown.About the Quicksilver
Features
- Separate short/long delay settings selectable on the fly via a stomp switch
- Variable bandwidth control over the delayed signal for brighter tape delay sounds or
darker analog delay sounds
- Delay time modulation for fast vibratos, ring modulation effects, tape delay wow and
flutter, chorusing and out of control pitch bend effects.
- Runaway feedback effects
- Effects loop for routing the delayed signal through external effects.
- Continuosly variable delay time for great divebomb pitch effects and delay time pitch
bending madness
- Expression pedal control over delay time
- 1.2 seconds delay time
- Separate wet and delay mix outputs
- True hard bypass switching
- And yes, amazingly enough, it runs off a 9v battery! (And DC power too)
Controls
- Delay L - Controls the longer range delay time setting
- Delay S - Controls the shorter range (slapback) delay time setting
- Tone - Controls the tone of the delayed signal. Brighter for tape delay type sounds,
darker for analog delay sounds.
- Mix - Controls the delay signal level
- Wobble - Controls the amount of modulation applied to the delay time
- Speed - Controls the speed of modulation (fast for vibrato and ring mod effects, slower
for tape delay wow and flutter)
- Repeats - Controls the number of repeats. From one slapback to runaway feedback.
- Long/Short switch - Selects the long or short delay setting. The LED indicators will
light up to let you know which one is currently active. Red for long, yellow for short.
- Bypass switch - Bypasses the delay effect and routes your signal straight through for
true bypass.
Jacks
- In - Effect input jack
- Out - Effect output jack
- Loop/Wet Out - Feedback effect loop output and 100% wet output.
- Loop In - Effect loop input
- Exp - Expression pedal input for control over delay time
Suggested uses
Where do we start? There are WAY too many possible uses for this
thing there is no possible way to list them all. Here are a few to get you started on the road
to delay heaven with the Quicksilver.
Effects Loop
The quicksilver allows you to process the delay
feedback loop through external effects. To use the quicksilver with other effects or
processors in the effects loop, refer to the diagram at right. Connect the Loop/Wet output
to the input of the first effect or device in the signal chain. Chain together as many
devices as you like and then connect the output of the last device in the signal chain
back into the Loop In. Adjust the "Repeats" knob for the desired regeneration level. Now,
every delay repeat will be routed through this signal chain. As the delays repeat, the
signal becomes more and more processed as the audio is repeatedly routed through the same
effect chain again and again. Bypassing the Quicksilver also bypasses anything in the
Quicksilver's effect loop. Effects that create gain (overdrive, fuzz, etc.) will cause the
quicksilver to feedback more quickly so back off on the repeats knob.
- Put a volume pedal in the feedback loop and turn the repeats all the way up. You can now
control the repeats using the volume pedal. Bring it all the way for runaway feedback delays
and then roll the volume pedal back to bring it back under control
- To really nail the tape delay sound, put a compressor (such as the Blackbox Oxygen) in
the feedback effects loop of your Quicksilver. Turn the tone knob all the way clockwise, set
the modulation speed all the way counter clockwise, set the modulation amount (wobble) to
taste and voila.
- Put an EQ or filter in the feedback loop to tailor your delay tone to your liking.
- Other suggestions for things to stick in the effects loop are: fuzzes (back down the
repeats to avoid runaway feedback), tremolo, phasers, wah pedals, delays, and on and on. As
the signal delays, it becomes more and more effected as the signal is repeatedly routed
through the effects chain in the feedback effects loop.
Expression Pedal
To control delay time using an external expression
pedal, simply plug a standard expression pedal (a volume pedal will note work, make sure it
has a stereo or TRS plug) into the exp jack. Set the delay time sweep range that the
expression pedal travel will control using the front panel delay time control. IMPORTANT! Do
not plug audio cables into the exp jack!
Other suggestions
- For ring modulation effects, turn the modulation speed all the way clockwise and turn up
the wobble to taste.
- For vibrato effects, set the modulation speed between 2-4:00 and turn up the wobble to
taste.
- For subtle chorusing effects, set the the speed between 11:00-1:00 and turn up the
wobble just enough until you start to hear a slight pitch modulation.
- For stereo delay, use the regular output and the loop/wet out in combination. You can
turn the mix down to get a dry signal out of the regular output. The loop/wet out outputs a
100% wet delay signal.
Unplugging the cord from the input jack when not in use will
switch the Quicksilver off and will prolong battery life significantly. When using the DC
jack, use a 9v DC filtered and isolated power supply. Tip negative, ring positive. We
recommend using a DC power supply but if you need to use batteries, we recommend using long
life alkaline batteries. Low batteries or underpowered DC adapters may cause your Quicksilver
to function incorrectly. Installing a fresh battery or using a higher amperage rated power
supply will resolve this issue.

| Feature: |
What it means: |
| True bypass |
Since the input and output of the effect are wired
"straight through" when the effect is bypassed, it won't
suck the life out of your instrument's tone |
| Built by hand using the highest quality parts |
Durable construction and reliable performance |
| Cool, unique hand painted exterior |
So it looks as good as it sounds! |
| Low power consumption for long battery life |
Replace the battery less often (if ever) |
| Better frequency response than a cheap AM transistor radio! |
Designed and built for full frequency range for use with guitar,
bass, synths, etc. |
